Soul Detox: Sustain Your Roots

Craig Groeschel, author of Soul Detox, says this about the root of bitterness:

"All roots, whether those of a giant Redwood or of personal bitterness, sustain themselves by what they absorb and the direction they grow. The roots absorb whatever moisture is nearby into their system to nourish the tree. If the roots absorb clean water, the tree will grow strong and healthy. If the roots absorb contaminated water, the tree becomes diseased and unhealthy. Just like people. The more they dwell on a hurt, the more poison their hearts absorb."

In the new year, may you find yourself planted in the midst of life-sustaining moisture so that your roots can be properly nourished and your life flourish like a cedar tree in Lebanon. Free yourself from contaminated atmospheres and people. Selah.

Time For A "Soul Detox"

It's a new year! People are attempting to live out their New Years resolutions and achieve new life goals. Many people are committing to lose a few pounds, be a little nicer, or make significant steps to climb out of debt. Others, like myself, are embarking on an annual 21 day fast with their local congregations. This year, in addition to corporately fasting with my church, I decided that I would embark on a personal and intense "Soul Detox".

I'd seen Craig Groeschel's book "Soul Detox" on shelves before, but this current season of my life has really prompted me to pause, step back, and empty out every unnecessary and toxic thing. And that is exactly what this book is helping me to do. While I've only made it to the second section of the book, I have already discovered some things about myself that are worth evaluating.

This post is simply a post to invite you to join in on the good read or pick up a good read of your own that will challenge you and make you evaluate where you are. I hope to share some blogs with you from this book, but I'm not making any promises (part of my stepping back has involved taking a mental break which is why I haven't been posting). I hope you'll join me on this Soul Detox (for those who feel they REALLY need it)
